With spring fast approaching there is a long list of things that need to be started to prepare for the up coming harvest season. Not to mention getting our flower beds ready to bloom.
Some of my flowers are getting a head start. I still need to clean out the flower beds from last year, cut down all the old growth, prepare for the new, and plant some new bulbs. It is also time to prune the apple trees.
In the garden I need to weed around the asparagus and rhubarb. I also need to plant the garlic bulbs.
This year I am starting my herb garden at the new house and need to cut down the green briars that are currently there and work up the soil. Then I will start with the basics and my favorites. I will plant chives, lavender, thyme, basil, oregano, and chamomile to start with them expand my garden through out the year.
This is just the starting point for the year with a ton of work to be done before harvesting this fall. We have to start with clean up, and all yard material will be added to the compost pile. We have tons of work to do here considering this is our first full season at the new house. We started the garden and had a few things planted last year but got a late start. We should be able to get more accomplished this year.
We also didn't get alot canned last year either so we really need to restore our cellar and food supply. Thank goodness for some dear friends and their farm for helping supplement of food supply for the winter.
The weather is almost ready for us to start outside, but we have to wait until the chance of frost passes before we can start any serious planting. So for now.....happy yard cleaning!!
